Schumer commits to putting WEP/GPO repeal up for a vote at IAFF-led labor rally - IAFF

Your Principal Officers of L1309 and the CPFF traveled to Washington DC yesterday to rally for the US Senate to hold a vote on SB 597 (Social Security Fairness Act) to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which have stripped fire fighters of their rightful Social Security benefits for the past 40 years. It has already passed the House and we were able to get a commitment from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schummer (D-NY) yesterday to put it on the Senate Calendar and CALL THE VOTE!

This is a massive step forward to correcting an unfairness to our members and will secure the social security benefits you've rightfully earned.
